The future is getting a little brighter for Formula E and electric cars in general with the release of the next car for 2018/19 series. The new car will have almost double the energy storage capacity and double the range giving a full race, so the drivers won’t have to jump out half way through at the pitstops.
“This car represents the future of racing," said Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag. "When we started Formula E, our goal was to break the mould and challenge the status quo - bringing a revolution to motorsport. This next generation car represents that revolution."
These are computer generated renderings and we are still waiting on the physical car that will be released on March 6 2018 at the Geneva motor show.
This is excellent news for the world as electric cars advance further, motorsport is leading the development and should push battery performance to even better levels. Look out F1, burning fossil fuel may become obsolete sooner than you think.
The car itself is nice to look at, but I am a little disappointed they are moving away from traditional open wheel formula’s, with the enclosed wheels I kind of don’t like but thats just because I love open wheel race cars.
There were renderings on the web around a year ago that showed a sexier car than the one that has appeared, but at least it is a breath of fresh air and they are moving forward with an interesting design.
