I was thrilled to get a Nissan Leaf a couple of years ago, totally electric, plugged into house current overnight, 90 mile range... not bad, just needed to rent a car to get to the island once a year, awesome around town, silent with great acceleration (no gears to shift through) and I could thumb my nose at the gas stations wiith their high prices... I didn't see any increase in my electric bill...
Fast forward three years, my husband gets moved to a veterans home near San Antonio, 225 miles away. My daughter, son-in-law and grandson move back to Texas from California. So now to see them, I have to rent a car as there are no charging stations within my range except my house...
Whine, moan and groan... so I am looking at hybrids... no Ford, Chevy or Dodge dealer had one in stock.. Then "the kids" suggested I look at Honda hybrid... one local dealer had one in stock... I went out JUST TO LOOK... and drove home in my new hybrid!!! It took about 4 hours to arrange my trade-in, my financing, etc.
Bottom line, I don't have to rent a car to see my husband or my grandson. I still use electric for around town and charge it on my household current. I can fill the tank for less than $25... and with a full charge and a full tank, my range is 445 miles... Seats 5 comfortably and has awesome safety features. I hadn't even SEEN ads for a Honda Hybrid... Thank you Cassie and Erik for your suggestion!!!
