Man-cave ornaments on a shoestring ...

This post is about making your own collectibles! Recently I started picking up die-cast toy cars from car boot sales. Scouting around and rummaging through boxes of them on my knees outside in a field somewhere.
a bargain treasure hunter's paradise
Now I've quite a number of childhood favorites and more grown-up favorites of what are now cult classics. Realizing the tatty ones will never be worth much money, I thought why not workshop them. Perhaps even end up with some man-cave ornaments. Toy cars matter! They're for grown up children also. Especially rainy days locked down and working from home.
One hobby I like to indulge in (to varying degrees of success), is scale model making kits. Being a petrol head, nothing takes me away to a quiet space more than making 1/24 scale Tamiya, Revell or other brands of plastic car model kits. The drawback is these kits take immense focus, time, and effort - patience essentially. They're a hobby to master over the long term - model making is something that one can only improve upon over prolonged periods of time and effort. Play-beaten die-cast models make for great modelling projects to work on at very low cost. They also help you build up transferable skills in renovating, metal, plastic, and paint work, and general creativity.
So then to the action. I'll share some progress pics below of the projects and some information about how each stage was reached. Later I'll continue to post my results here. Follow me on Instagram for more pictures and regular updates.
Works in progress!
