Why is it that life kicks you when you're down? Now, don't get me wrong, bad things happen to good people - no exceptions - and we've already let you guys in on what we've been dealing with over the last two years (If you want to read it, here you go: Mum has gone)
So in the aftermath of Hazel's death, we started the process of sorting through her Will and her father's Trust regarding the property. We live in a lovely area of The Lake District, in one of two cottages surrounded by a garden and orchard.
Ben's grandfather bound the property in a Trust to go to Ben and his brother, providing Hazel a home there for her lifetime, provided she looked after it all, and organised how it all would be split between her two sons.
Thing is - Hazel never did get round to doing this, and now...well now, we find ourselves in a situation where we may lose our home because there is an obscene amount of Inheritance Tax to pay.
(Yup - this pretty much sums up how much IHT truly sucks)
So what next? we put on our big girl - and big boy - pants, and we get down to business. It's time to become experts on Probate, what types of Trusts there are here in the U.K. and Inheritance Tax. Yippeee...
Thankfully, Ben and I are "Glass Half Full" people, meaning we've put our trust in The Universe, and that what it brings is what we need in order to grow.
Normal service will resume - please trust in that! In fact, we are heading out tomorrow on a road trip in the Audi Q4 e-tron S Line - yay!
My good friend Jocelyn is getting married, so we are heading down South to share in their special day. More when we have it.
Thank you all, and enjoy!
