Back in June 2016, yes 2016 I was happily driving the Mk2 to dinner with Mum and Fiance, when the oil buzzer sounded, now these cars have been plagued with buzzer problems for years usually being the pressure sensor on the oil cooler housing.
Today was going to be different as the buzzer was indicating the pressure was so bad that the car would seize imminently, little did I know.
I knew soon enough, and the rest is history.
The car is 27 years old a 91' and came factory standard as a MK2 Golf GTI 16V in Helios Blue. Now there was no way I was letting the car go, I started looking at fixing the existing engine and conversions. I discounted rebuild immediately as it had already had a complete rebuild, and started delving into what conversions I could go for.
There are a few conversions the VR6, 1.8T, ABF and R32, these are the most common, realistically speaking you can put any engine in any car if you have the skill and knowledge.
I opted for the ABF 2.0L 16V, this conversion is the simplest and most original looking with the only difference being the block is 1cm taller, meaning the bonnet lagging has to be removed.
Anyway that's enough chat, the video explains what we have done and aim to do when the weather stops being inclement, if you have any questions please leave them below, thank you
