Representational
India has less than the World Health Organization (WHO) prescribed number of doctors i.e. a doctor population ratio of 1:1000.
What would you feel that one day you're on duty as a doctor but the relatives of the patient told you that you shouldn't treat the patient because of your caste?
This was what happened to Dr Geetesh Ratre in India's Madhya Pradesh, at a place called Jabalpur, in a government-run Subhash Chandra Medical College. He's considered to be of low birth in India. He was manhandled and intimidated by those who wanted the patient to be treated by upper caste doctors.
The doctor went to the police as he should. The complaint includes casteist remarks directed against the doctor. The case has been registered under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The caste is incompatible with the constitution? It would appear to be so.
