“Fuel your wanderlust.” It’s highly recommended advice I would tell everyone if they’re stressed, burnt out, or feeling the strain of life’s pressure. It’s always important to take a deep breath and make time for yourself – to get lost, to reinvigorate yourself, and be ready again.
Hi, Globetrotters! For my very first travel post, which I’d like to officially call the “**Travel Trotter**” Series (#traveltrotter), I’d like to bring you on a journey with me into one of Cebu’s breathtaking islands with turquoise-colored beaches, isolated and away from the city’s bustling crowd. It’s a hidden paradise that everyone absolutely has to know about. Take this empty seat beside me and we’re on our way!
Carnaza Island is an island located at the northernmost distance from Daanbantayan’s shore. It would be the most idyllic experience ever for every traveler. The island is turtle-shaped and shrouded in dense forest, luxurious white sand beaches, and crystal clear beaches.
The first time I went there was on February 2022, and I remember how awestruck I was. It was an isolated island and being there made you feel as if the whole place was yours for the taking.
Traveling there was not only exciting, but it was also stimulating as we challenged ourselves on a budget of P1200 (roughly about 24USD) per head, including transportation, accommodation, and food. We were only there for 2 days and one night.
How did we get there? Our starting point was at Cebu City so we took a bus from Cebu North Terminal (because of the pandemic, buses have been moved at SM City’s Bus Station) going to Maya. The fare was P197 back then so prices must have been changed by now. Travel took around 4-6 hours at most. When we arrived at Maya, we took a small ferry boat headed for Carnaza Island. The price was P200 though we think it has been updated by now.
It was a 3-hours journey as we braved the strong waves of the sea. And once Carnaza was on sight, I’d never been in love with a place before as much as I loved seeing the island at first glance.
We got off and I was finally able to burrow my feet in its white sand. The fresh smell of clean air, and a healthy ocean. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, away from polluted air.
We then took a motorcycle (Fare is about P30 per trip, and the drivers are such nice, friendly people) on the way to Eco Park; the island’s primary and private resort. Its’ where we stayed for a night.
Eco Park has what they call Woodshed Rooms; triangle-shaped rooms situated just in front of the beach. So if you plan on taking a dip, just go out and step into the water, and you’re all good to go. The Woodshed Rooms rental is P200 per night and it’s already good for two. If you aren’t comfortable with the rooms, you can always opt for accommodation from the local neighboring town. There are available airbnb’s but it’s best to book them ahead of time.
And if you want to take a land trip tour, you can already visit 3 places for P150 within a span of 2 hours. The motorcycle drivers will be more than willing to accommodate you. If you want to visit more, you can pay an additional P30.
We visited Twin/Liog-Liog Beach. It's called that way because there are two beaches divided by a huge rock formation.
Next, we went to Kang Gorio Cove. Kang Gorio has another huge rock formation with a cliff at the end, and just below it is a small entrance to a cove. Once you dip in further, another hidden paradise enclosure awaits you. You may visit the underground cave around 5 pm so you can witness the sun setting down through the frame opening of the cave. Outside the cove is also a beach.
We also visited Skull Cove. This place has a cave and at one portion, you can see skulls displayed on a lifted wooden chair. In front of this cave is another beach, and on the left side, is a paved road leading you to the top of a cliff, with a helipad landing overview. Yet again, it is another overlooking view of the bountiful beaches of Carnaza.
The place is majestic, with fresh, virgin white sand and beaches. It's totally worth the summer trip, or spontaneous adventure. The locals are friendly and all the riders/tourist guides are definitely friendly. This island is North Cebu's hidden paradise.
If you’re from Cebu or planning to visit Cebu soon, I would highly recommend that you give this place a chance. Bask in the sun, dip in crystal beaches, burrow your feet in the sand, and relax. Life doesn’t have to be so bad. Travel will always be the medication.
And for sure, this won't be the last time we're visiting the place. We'll be back soon. Carnaza is one wondrous place you don't want to sleep on.
And because you've already read this far, it's your turn to travel. If you're looking for a sign to plan that long-awaited getaway, well - this is it!
Safe travels for you and be on your way!
