TSUNAMI
This is usually generated by the displacement of a magnificent quantity of water in water bodies such as lakes, and deep sea. In most cases they can be caused by landslides, volcanic eruption or the movement of the lithospheric plate on the sea bed.
The first recorded tsunami occurred about 8000 years ago,it was caused by a volcano and led an avalanche in Sicily to crash into the sea,spreading across the entire Mediterranean Sea. Scientists recorded that the tsunami was taller than a 10 storey building.
Around April 1st 1946, The April Fools Tsunami which was initiated by an earthquake in Alaska occured, killing over 159 people.
May 22nd 1960, the largest recorded in modern times was the Tsunami in Lituya Bay Alaska which was triggered by a landslide which led to an 8.3 magnitude earthquake killing hundreds of people.
July 17th 1998, a tsunami in New Guinea triggered by an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 occured, killing more than 2,200 people. it is one of the most devastating tsunamis that ever occured.
The most recent tsunami occured in December 26th 2004 in Indonesia causes by an earthquake of magnitude approximately 9.2 killing over 230 000 people. The tsunami is known as Indian ocean tsunami. It was the third largest tsunami ever recorded.
Tsunami is a perilous Natural force detrimental to man's existence. It always lead to loss of lives,properties etc. So far so good there has not being a record of Tsunami in Nigeria. GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY, GOD BLESS NIGERIA.
