Source IREC. This is a diagram of a new type of battery that is actually a generator. It is a generator because it requires fuel in the form of hydrogen and oxygen to make electricity by using electrolysis. The electrodes are porous and the electrolyte is solid. Due to the separation of the cathode and anode the attraction energy between H2 and Oxygen never occurs and is kicked off as electrons with H2O as a byproduct. Below the diagram on the right labeled SOFC is a more detailed diagram of this process. The other side Co-SOEC is the same reaction in reverse.

This is the first installment of a description of a really interesting use of ceramic 3D printing combined with inkjet printing to generate energy.
The next installment will provide videos of the 3D printer in action an examples of the inkjet process.
