Almost every day there is a festival in Munich and 95% out of them, revolve around beer, like the world famous Oktoberfest, the Starkbeerfest (strong beer festival), Frühlingsfest (spring festival) which is again about the beer.
And there is Tollwood...
Tollwood is different. Tollwood is about art, about being free, about doing sometimes the right thing. It lasts for 26 days. There is a concert every evening in the main tent. The festival is held in the Olympic park of Munich. It is easy to get here as there is a special bus line which drives you directly to the event area.
The main area is called the Market of Ideas, where unique handcrafted objects can be bought. Also there you can buy food from different countries. The only condition is that everything has to be “fair trade” labeled and the food organic. Tollwood stands for fairness. tolerance, internationality and openness are the keystones of the festival. There is a NGO tent where NGOs present themselves. The Hippiedom tent is a new addition this year. Like the name says, it is inspired by the flower power time.
We’ve been visiting it on Saturday evening with a friend. When you enter this statue made by MARCUS BOWCOTT and HELENE ASPINALL greets you:
In the areal, which is huge, you can find different street signs that guide you:
or something like this if you get lost:
Sometimes it is best to find new ways.
We had a wonderful evening trying different flavors. We got also to silent disco party where two channels were streamed. Real funny to see people dancing to some chill music and “Smells like teen spirit” in the same room at the same time.
And we finished the evening with a skyline view from the "Olympia Berg", a man made hill where whole Munich can be seen.
