I start by making short, quick strokes in the direction the body i also used a red colored pencil
it is important where your light source is coming from, i add lights on several parts

normal eraser, eraser pencil
white drawing paper - Steinbach paper
Pencils sharpener
charcoal pencil
kleenex paper
i use kleenex paper to blend shadows
HB pencil to draw the first sketch
sketching out an outline
