As children we were give some snacks for our dessert in our lunch boxes.
Having grown up in the US I remember having Twinkies or DingDongs in our lunch box.
When I went back to work after graduating, to the US, I was able to buy them again. But I later forgot about them.
One day we went shopping at a newly opened mall or warehouse called S&R. They sold mostly imported items at a relatively good price. Not too expensive and they occasionally have sales. Mostly in bulk too.
Going around the big warehouse row by row and walking slowly I saw my childhood friends! Twinkies and DingDongs!
A bit expensive (not really if you consider it being imported) but I had to buy 1 box! I thought they fazed out but seems only a few companies closed. Hmm after biting into one, memories of my childhood in the US came flashing by. Opening our lunch boxes and eating the dessert first. Then at times getting mad because it got squashed by our thermos. Sometimes fighting over who gets the last Twinkies (there were four of us), ending up by each getting a half a Twinkies.
It had been over 30 years when I last tasted them and yes, the still taste the same.
I bought a box of these on my second trip. I wallowed in the memories of the Twinkies first then the DingDongs. It was my younger brothers who loved the DingDongs more because of the chocolate flavor.
Both are from Hostess and I know they make delicious snack foods. So now whenever the urge hits me or if I just want to pretend to be a child again, I will buy another box. Now I know where to find them.
