China and EU agree on steps to resolve EV imports dispute
"A “guidance document” released by the EU on Monday gives instructions for Chinese EV manufacturers on making price offers for battery EVs, including minimum import prices and other details. The EU had imposed tariffs of up to 35.3% on Chinese EV imports in 2024 following an anti-subsidy investigation.
The EU said that minimum import prices must be set at a level “appropriate to remove the injurious effects of the subsidization.”"
--- Moronic. Yes, Chinese car makers will sell a few cars less, but on the other hand, they will make more profit per car, so for them it's a positive anyway.
Beijing hails Brussels' move to help Chinese EV makers avoid EU tariffs
"The decision “is not only conducive to the healthy development of China-EU economic and trade relations, but also conducive to maintaining a rules-based international trade order,” China’s commerce ministry said in a statement following the Commission’s note.
The China Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (CCCEU), which represents more than a thousand Chinese firms operating across the bloc, also welcomed the move.
“This constructive outcome will significantly boost market confidence, provide a more stable and predictable environment for Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, and related supply-chain companies operating in Europe,”"
--- That China is happy with it shows how stupid the decision would be.
Xi stresses the need to win the fight against corruption in China
"Beijing's "high-pressure campaign" in recent years has led to many high-profile investigations, reflecting Xi's more than decade-long drive to root out corruption and enforce discipline in the ruling Communist Party."
--- Writers functioning as Emperor Xi's cult reporter again. As if that anti-corruption campaign would be targeting anyone but Xi's opponents.
"Last year, revised austerity regulations targeting Communist Party members and public sector workers banned lavish banquets, "white-elephant" infrastructure projects, luxurious car fittings and ornamental plants in work meetings."
--- That's not targeting corruption either. This is more devised so that the population which is suffering under the worsening economy does not get angry about all the luxury the CCP elite has.
Xinjiang whistleblower faces deportation to China — lawyer
"Heng Guan, a Chinese national who documented a network of detention facilities in China's northwestern Xinjiang province, has spent months in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody as the Trump administration's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) attempted to deport him.
Guan's second court hearing is set for Monday after a DHS prosecutor asked a court in December to deport him to Uganda under a third-country migrant deal.
That request was later withdrawn amid concerns raised in Washington, D.C., but ICE continued to push for Guan's deportation to China, according to his attorney, Chuangchuang Chen."
--- He may have entered the USA illegally but sending him back to China? Seriously?
MPs step up calls to block Chinese mega-embassy
"Labour, Tory, Liberal Democrat, DUP and SNP MPs all urged the government to reject the embassy plans to prevent espionage and guard against the "transnational repression" of Hong Kongers in the UK, in an urgent Commons debate.
Planning Minister Matthew Pennycook said the government took these issues seriously and "all material considerations will be taken into consideration" when the decision is made "on or before 20 January"."
--- Looks like the government isn't taking the issue all that seriously after all: China’s London super-embassy almost certain to get go-ahead next week
