Sharing with you a beautiful photo caption I just received in my FB page today.
There are many faces of love but reading this definition of St. Augustine has got me thinking about what love is truly about. "Have I ever really loved like this, so selflessly, sincerely and compassionately?", I ask myself. There are so many questions popping up in my mind and the answers are nebulous and uncertain. Because being human, imperfect and sinful as I am I could not say for sure where I stand. I look at my hands and are they always ready to help others? My feet, do they run to the poor and needy? And my eyes and ears, what do they see and hear?
God says quite clearly that we are to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. If we do this then we are His children and definitely love Him. I think about how to achieve all this when we are full of self love and stingy with our time and money. I can't be bothered with other people's problems and little grievances. Do I want to spend time working for charitable organisations and causes that might be unrewarding for me? I don't know. I think maybe this is a good time to start to do the impossible for me, change my perception of what love is. The kind of love that is deep in the heart and not up in the air and devoid of real compassion.
Love is all about loving God and our fellowmen. This is what love looks like.
