Hi everyone! Have you ever asked God to make your will, His will? That's the message in today's #bibleliteracychallenge from Proverbs 16:3.
In this verse, let's focus on four key words: commit, works, thoughts, and established.
"Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established."
Commit comes from the Hebrew word, galal (gaw-lal), which means to roll, seek an occasion with, or to trust. It literally means we should "roll" our works onto God, in the sense that we are actively seeking His guidance and wisdom.
Imagine the mental process of trying to figure out the details of your "works" as a large, round, burdensome stone. "Commit" means to roll this burden onto God- give it to Him- and let Him work out the details for you.
"Commit your works . . ."
Works, from the Hebrew word, ma'aseh (ma-as-eh), simply means whatever you decide to do, or your transactions.
Essentially what we have so far is that whatever we decide to do, we should "roll" or "entrust" that idea onto God for His guidance.
". . . and your thoughts . . ."
Thoughts is from the Hebrew word, machashabah (makh-ash-aw-baw), and means purpose, intention, plan, imagination, or advice. This is your will.
". . . will be established . . ."
Established is from the Hebrew word, kuwn (koon), which means to be erect, set up, rendered sure, unchanging, prosperous, and will endure. This promises us that God take care of the burdensome details and will work it all out for us.
How many of us have testimonies of committing ourselves to God, and later finding ourselves serving Him in ways we never would've imagined? We took those first steps to commit our way to Him, and along the journey, He took care of the details.
This verse is a great reminder to trust in the providence of God to make our will conform to His will.
