Focus can be explained as a central point of attraction, attention, or activity. It could be a point of origin where something begins from, or a primary center where something develops from or settles at. To focus means to concentrate on something, to converge on a point, or to direct one's attention or efforts towards someone or something.
Focus can be generally understood in two ways:
1. To be focused: which describes the attention, effort and concentration one directs into achieving a set goal or task
2. To focus: which is the deliberate effort one makes to achieve a set goal or task
As Christians, what should we focus on?
a. We should focus on our service to God here on earth - Romans 12:1
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service”
b. We should focus on the race to make heaven - Hebrews 12:1
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us”
How can we live a focused christian life?
a. By practising to fear God, and to turn our back on evil - Job 28:28
“And unto man he said, behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”
b. By living a life of holiness - 1 Peter 1:16
“Because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy.”
c. By praying and studying God's word - Acts 6:4
“But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word”
What do we gain from being focused children of God?
a. Everything we do prospers - Psalm 1:3
“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
b. We become an embodiment of success - Joshua 1:8
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
