Forgiveness of Sins (12): Considering Romans!
Text: Romans 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
We have considered what was prophesied and the events in the Gospels. We also looked into few sermons preached by Apostle Peter in the book of Acts. Now, let us learn from the Epistles.
How did the epistles present forgiveness of sins? In Romans, Paul made a very valid point in the text quoted above: forgiveness of sins is not earned individually!
The example of Abraham was stated as one who only believed as was justified. Romans 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
This is the same for us today who believed for we would be justified.
Romans 4:24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; just as Abraham believed and was justified, when we believe in the resurrection of Christ, we would be justified too!
So, how is forgiveness of sins realised if we are only to be justified by believing?
Romans 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Jesus was delivered for our offences and rose for our justification! So, faith in Him guarantees us forgiveness of sins because He wrought that for us in His redemptive sacrifice!
