"Let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God." (1 John 4:7)
Augustine sees the Trinity as being the Lover (Father), the Beloved (Son), and Love (Spirit).
God pours out his Love in us to united to himself. This Love is also how we are united together, we are united becase we love with the Love of God.
