What is a Christian in a Biblical definition
Since the Bible is the authority of the Christian faith, let's see what it means for the word "Christian." The word is used only 3 times in the New Testament and each case it refers to the first "Christians" of the early church.
So Barnabas and Saul met for a whole year with the church and taught many people. His disciples were called first Christians in Antioch "(Acts 11:26).
Then Agrippa said to Paul, "Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?" (Acts 26:28).
"However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God because you bear this name" (1 Peter 4:16).
They were called "Christians" because their behavior, activity, and speech were like Jesus Christ. The word Christian means, "a follower of Christ" or "belonging to the Messiah Party." So what made them part of this group called "Christians."
The Bible says that good works do not make us acceptable to God.In other words, a person can live on a high moral level, give money to feed the poor, go to church, serve their neighbors, and yet not be a Jesus or "Christian" follower.
Titus 3: 3-6 says, "Once we were foolish, resentful, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures, we lived in spite and envy, hated and hated each other, but when the grace and love of our Savior appeared, , But because of His mercies, He saved us through the washing of rebirth and regeneration by the Holy Spirit, which is poured generously upon us through our Savior Jesus, so that, having been justified by his grace, we may make heirs there hope for eternal life. "
Ephesians 2: 8-9 explains further, "For by grace you are saved, through faith - and it is not ye, the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast."
These verses clearly share that salvation (reborn) is God's gift. Nothing we do can earn us salvation. A true Christian is a person who received the gift of God's salvation and gave their faith in Jesus Christ. This includes accepting Christ's death on the Cross as payment for our sins and resurrection as proof of His power over death.
What is a Christian? The believer's response
Once you answer the question, "What is a Christian?", You have the personal responsibility to ask yourself, "What does this mean to me? Have I rejected or accepted the gift of God?"
If you have received the gift of God's salvation, how have your lives changed? Do you have the signs of a follower of Jesus Christ, a Christian? If so, your life will be characterized by love for others and obedience to God's words. 1 John 2: 4-6 says, "Who says," I know him, "but do not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person, but if someone obeys his word, love for God is truly completed in them. Thus we know that we are in it: whoever claims to live in it must live as Jesus did. "
If you have never received the free gift of God, we encourage you to continue your investigation. What keeps you back? What questions do you have? Please write to us about this.
If you are willing to trust Jesus and be a Christian, believe in Christ and carry the rest of your life to Him. Understand that sin separates you from God (Romans 6:23) and Jesus died as your substitute (Romans 5: 8). You may have faith in Jesus to forgive you and give you eternal life with Him, and not eternal death.
Talk to God and tell him you want him in your life. Remember, saying a prayer will not save you. You simply express your faith to God through prayer.
"I know that your son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, resurrected from the dead, alive, and heard the words of the Lord, I invite Jesus to be the Lord of my life, to rule and have peace in my heart from this day on ... Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey you, and do your will for the rest of my life.
"In repentance, let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).
If you have decided to accept Christ today, welcome to the family of God. Now, as a way to approach him, the Bible tells us to follow our commitment.
