Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. (Acts 12:5 kJV).
Peter was prison, there he awaited for his execution. The Church had neither human power or influence to save Peter from prison. There wasn't earthly help, but there was help to be obtained by the way of Heaven. They gave themselves to fervent, importunate prayer. God sent His angel, who aroused Peter from sleep and led him out through the first and second wards of the prison; and when they came to the iron gate, it opened to them of its own accord, and Peter was free.
There may be some iron gate in your life which has blocked so many thing on your way. Like a caged bird you have often beaten against the bars, yet, rather than helping, you have just needed to fall back worn out, depleted and sore on a fundamental level. There is a mystery for you to learn, and that is trusting petition; and when you go to the iron gate, it will open voluntarily.
What amount squandered vitality and sore disillusionment will be spared in the event that you will figure out how to supplicate as did the Church in the second story room. nothing can resist its touch. Looking at Elijah on Carmel, he bowed down on the ground, with his face between his knees, that was prayer. Prayer can be too tense for words.
The man's entire being was in contact with God, and was set with God against the forces of wickedness. They couldn't withstand such asking. There’s more of this embodied praying needed.
