Welcome to the first edition of Sunday Bible Study. Before we begin, let us pray. Awesome, beautiful, eternal king, we bless you for how everything has been and we're grateful to be here this evening to learn at your feet. We ask that you reach out to us with your word tonight and let our lives never remain the same, in the mighty name of Jesus have we prayed
Now, the topic for this edition is HEARING FROM GOD.
You will agree with me that many christians have been duped and deceived and many have even been used, misused and abused by many so called 'men of God' all because they want to know what God is saying to them. Everyone wants to make the right decision, I personally believe everyone wants to do what's right ( at least in their own eyes) and to do this, we try to seek God's opinion so as to make the right choice.
How do we hear from God? How do I know this voice I am hearing is from God? Can I even hear God speak? Am I worthy enough to hear God? These and many more questions are what we will try to answer as God helps us.
First thing I want us to know is that God is our father, he loves us and wants to speak to us. The Bible mentions that his eyes are going to and fro the earth, searching for people that will please him.
The second thing I want us to know is that every born again Christian has access to the mind of God.
Paul declared that we have the mind of Christ
1 Cor 2:16
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? ~But we have the mind of Christ.~
The first part was actually a quotation from the Old Testament but the question has been answered in the New Testament, we have the mind of Christ 💪🏼 Now, the main lesson of tonight. Let's all open to Heb 1:1-2
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake unto the fathers by the prophets
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds
Sundry times means times past in essence, the Old Testament
God spoke the prophets of old in different ways and manners, most of the time they're usually scared, and he'll have to tell them not to be afraid.
He spoke to them through dreams, angel appearances, visions, loud voice and many more.
But in these last days, God has spoken to us through his son. In essence through his word. The Bible says in John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
The word that is Jesus Christ became flesh. Jesus is the word of God and that's the way God speaks to us today, through his word. But it's unfortunate many of us including myself still prefer dreams, visions etc. But know this, God wants us dependent on his word. Remember,
Sometimes I wish God would just appear before me and he would just tell me how to go about solving my life problems. Other times I wish and even pray to dream about my future and then know exactly what to do. But allow me to inform you that those were methods use for people of old, Jesus is the new way, the word is the new thing.
Honestly, the reason for all these seeking after dreams and visions is simple, we are lazy, I am lazy. Lazy to read, study, meditate, memorize, we are lazy.
We should thank God we even have the Bible in English. Imagine the Bible we use is still in Hebrew and Greek and Aramaic and then we will have to attend language schools in order to be able to read.
But that's not the case, yet we still don't read
And it's not entirely our fault, I believe the devil concentrates efforts on preventing people from knowing the truth.
You want to hear God speak? You want to know what decision to take? You don't want to make mistakes in important choices like career, life partner etc? Then be a student of the word. Start tonight, spend just 10mins reading and studying. Do this for a week and I promise you'll see the difference.
The lesson today is this: the best way God speaks to us is through his son that is through his word, read it, study it, meditate on it, memorise it and you'll be like a tree planted by the waters which brings forth his fruit every season. God bless you. See you again next week.
