Weeks away from Christmas, this is a terrible time of year for turkeys in the UK, but a Welsh songstress has been trying to soothe them with live performances. Elin William, 25, has been singing to the doomed birds on Rhug Estate farm in Corwen, north Wales.
In a video released by the Metro website on Monday, the “turkey whisper” was captured playing guitar and performing a Welsh version of “Hallelujah” in a farm field, with her audience of turkeys clucking around her, seemingly content.
Elin came up with the idea of singing lullabies to the birds last year when they appeared inquisitive about the recorded tunes from CDs.
It is thought that animal anxiety befor
e slaughter has a negative impact on meat quality. “We try to induce as little stress as possible on the animals so Lord Newborough [the estate owner)decided to continue with the music as part of this,” Elin said. “It helps keep them nice and calm.”
