It's hard to describe if you have never experienced it, but fresh snow has strange acoustic properties. Everything is quieter outside.

For kids, it offers a chance to play.

For adults, it offers an excuse to sit around the cozy fire before having to actually deal with the chores of shoveling and plowing.

For me, though, it means my back injuries get a double hit, first from the cold, and then from the labor.
