Disclaimer: This is more a reminder to myself than a valuable post for you. But I would be very happy to read about your thoughts and answers to my questions in this post!
why the title?
I've been only having eyes for d.tube and over the last months and I lost focus and connection to hive a bit. But let me say you something: it was 100% worth it! Dtube became a real decentralised dapp with its own blockchain while still being connected to hive (and steem) if the creators wants so. I am a very successful node leader there and I am super proud about it. But on the other side I felt bad about my growing disconnection hive.
I'm going to change that in 2021. Promise to myself. But because I don't believe in the power of new years resolutions - I start from today on. Let's see how active I can turn myself to be in the next weeks. Will I post more photography? Will I write short stupid things? Will I document my coding projects on here? Will I spend all my time to write essays about things I don't understand? I don't know - and I'm curious!
Why the thumbnail?
Today I share a picture of some of the many Christmas angles of my parents:
My parents own around 40-50 of them in different sizes, with different instruments, different skin and dress colours. I tried to explain it in more detail but I deleted the parts of this post and just let this here: I don't know why traditions are so strange to describe to other people. Especially those "collecting traditions" based on a holiday of a religion I am not part of. Everything a bit wierd but that's what I got born into. Can you relate? In which "cult" are you born into? ;)
But now back to those angels:
There are many different brands producing those angles here in Germany but one company is the favourite of many Christmas freaks:
Wendt & Kühn aka "Grünhainichener"
The unique feature to distinguish them from the other brands are their green wings with white dots. Could be that their wings have to have a special amount of dots but I don't really know. They are handmade and because of that they are also pretty expensive compared to other brands.
As I've said: Traditions are wierd and often costy but they help people to have steadiness or at least build an illusion of that in their lifes.
Those angels have different sizes, accessories, colors and all that but now just to give you an idea of the price: One unspecial little (2-3cm small) guy of this brand costs 25€. Now think about the fact that those angels are hidden in a carton for almost the whole year & it is not unusual that people have bunch of them of them only are visible while Christmas time. This tradition is absolutely nothing for me but my family and many more people in this part of Germany are just going crazy about those angels. Do you have such a tradition as well where you come from? Do you know those angles?
People today do not care so much about old traditions anymore. I can only speak for myself and about the people I know but I think that our society could eventually build up new traditions based on our global connections, transcultural relationships and interests.
Nobody knows how it will be in 50-100 years from now when we are old or even death but what I definitely know is: The people of tomorrow will look at yet developing traditions the same way as we are looking at those of our grandparents. Hopefully we will be not the overconsuming fanboys and fangirls spending all our pension in little puppets made out of wood or other stupid things.
As much as I don't understand the insanity and fandom of Christmas - I enjoy being together with my family, listening to classical Christmas music, sharing gifts, watching Christmas movies and all that in the end of every year.
I hope you're doing good and you can end the year with joy, love and empathy. Merry Christmas and a happy, better and safer new year!
