Welcome back to another edition of Unlocking the Power of Chrome. In this series I highlight a new Google Chrome extension every other day.
While most of the extensions I have covered so far are geared mostly for Chrome on a PC, the extension I am going to cover today is geared more specifically for mobile devices.
Data Saver
Data Saver is an extension that has been developed by Google. It can be installed by visiting the Chrome Webstore here. This extension does not have its own webpage because again it is offered directly by Google.
The Data Saver extension works by using Google servers to compress web pages that you are visiting before it downloads them. If you aren’t lucky enough to have an unlimited data plan, this could save you a bit of bandwidth depending on how much web surfing you do on your mobile device.
One thing to be aware of, the extension does not work if you are in an incognito tab/window. It also does not work on HTTPS sites. Please be sure to keep those two things in mind as you are using the extension.
The extension also gives you the option to view the details of how much data is being used by the sites you are visiting. This might give you a good idea of which sites to avoid if your data is getting low and which ones really don’t use as much data as you thought.
If you want a quicker more compressed way to browse or you frequently find yourself running out of mobile data, Data Saver might be just what you need.
Thanks again for visiting this series. If you have a Google Chrome extension you would like me to cover please leave a comment. If I highlight your suggested extension in a future post I will give you a shout-out, resteem, and an upvote of one of your recent posts.
