Going wireless with our sound board was a fantastic step up in technology. Pictured below is the Mackie DL1608 with iPad control which is displaying the main screen. The Mackie DL1608 is a 16 channel digital board with full effects, recording capability and much more. The iPad can either be docked or removed and used wirelessly around the church to help better dial in sound for the building. We usually just leave the one docked and use the second one you see to do the walk about as well as to control the various volumes for the in ear monitors.
Up to 10 iPhones or iPads can be connected wirelessly at the same time. There are 6 independent monitors that can be adjusted. Depending on your setup, you can grant access for each person to set their volumes on their monitors to their preferences.
The lead vocalist (my better half as pictured) actually takes her iPad to the back of the church (100 feet away from the stage) at the start of service and adjusts the various instruments and vocals volume of the band from the back as she is leading the song. (she is a great multi-tasker!)
Another great addition is being able to use in ear monitors. We could not get wireless in ears, so each band member has an 1/8 inch cable that runs to their position on stage. These in ear monitors are dual drivers. In order to make them custom, she took medical grade silicone and moulded custom fit in ears. This allows you to create your own world in sound for each person at a fraction of the cost of commercially made custom in ears monitors!
