Hinton Ampner
These photos were taken last weekend on a little road trip from home near Reading down into deepest Hampshire, where we stopped off at Hinton Ampner, a National Trust property in between Winchester and Petersfield. It was a beautiful day, so bright, that I wasn't used to the light and I struggled to see!
There's a church there, so I am going to tag this post with #churchproject to add it to that.
Not the sharpest of photos, perhaps due to my lack of breath at the moment, as I get over a very nasty bug, that has hampered me for close to two weeks now. I do love crocuses though, a great sign of longer and warmer days to come.
I would love to know how old this oak is, I reckon a good 700 years? That is an absolute guess. Playing around with presets in Lightroom led me to black and white, because it worked nicely.
Hopping back in the car, we head for Portsmouth
A closeup of an innovative way of storing your boat when not in use. This rack is about the height of a regular house, I guess I can call it a rack?
We watched with fascination as a Forklift retrieved one of the boats and brought it down to ground level, ready to launch off the nearby jetty.
The system reminded me of a giant vending machine, make your selection and then down it comes, albeit in a more gentle way than how your can of coke would come tumbling out of the front and onto the floor between your feet.
Old Portsmouth deserves more of my time, tempted to go down in the latterweek of March once my noticed period comes to an end with my redundancy. Maybe I should spend a little time out and about with my camera whilst I wait for the phone to ring with new opportunities.
These last two photos are what we call Contre-jour shots, where you the photography shoot into the light which typically renders your foreground subjects a silhoette, like with these unsuspecting volunteers. It's worth pointing out that the Ricoh GR3x is inconspicuous and great for street photography!
