Cigar smoking is much more than getting a nicotine fix, in fact that has absolutely nothing to do with smoking cigars. Cigars are magical, they easily bring people together regardless of race, age, economic status, or political affiliation. Some of the best and most important conversations I have ever had were during a cigar smoking session, and so many memorable times in my life include a cigar.
Last Friday was my oldest son's 18th birthday, he has been a casual cigar enthusiast for a little over two years. Although underage, he has a good amount of knowledge from asking questions, hanging out with me when I smoke, and the occasional puff from my cigar. I bought him his first small humidor for Christmas when he was 16. I have given him cigars from time to time, the first was a Fuente Flor Fina 858. This is the cigar he decided would be his first, to be smoked on his 18th birthday, the same cigar that was also my first real hand-made premium.
Friday was that day, first we went to the cigar shop so he could pick out and purchase his own cigars to add to the humidor. Of course I had to buy some as well. After dinner out with the family to celebrate, we sat down in my office and toasted our cigars, and toasted to his 18th birthday with cigars.
Although mind boggled of how quickly time has gone, I knew right away that this new era of life is a blessing. Regardless of what is going on in his life, I know he realizes that every evening he is welcome to sit down, light up a cigar, and hash out life.
When cigar smoke is wafting, interesting things happen..., stresses wane, minds listen even if only to themselves, comradery happens instantly. Awkward silence doesn't exist, yet sometimes neither does talking.., minds are opened, and you experience rejuvenated feelings to figure out life's problems. I look forward to many more great cigars.
