The show plays 172 years before the game of thrones story. My initial plan was "don't watch it until it's finished".
I failed with it and watched the first season.
Overall not bad. I think the story has potential but feels more like a long intro.
We see some insights about the Targaryen house. Like in Game of Thrones, a lot of fucking around and finding out.
More fucking around and more find-out.
If you are smart, watch it later for more seasons. If you are not smart, watch it now.
Overall not bad. I can recommend watching it.

Depending on what happens in the next season, it could become more attractive. I remember the first season of Game of thrones. It has the same vibes.
