I'll start right off by saying I enjoyed season II. Honestly, though, it went in a completely different direction from season 1. I was really surprised. I will say that I was a really big fan of Next Generation. They would have had to of created a complete flop for me to hate it. I know these may be fighting words to some, but I think Picard was the best Captain... I'm sorry Admiral now.
OK, so I'm going to try and do this review with very few or hopefully no spoilers. This is going to be tough.
First off, they do bring back a few characters from Next Gen. The previews already hinted at Q and I won't ruin the rest of the return characters. I was pretty excited about this season because Q has always been one of my favorite characters. They hint at a season 3 revealing even more character returns for the coming season.
The general plot of season II goes like this, Picard and crew are transported to another timeline where the Federation has become a bit fascist and Picard is not the same man he was. Obviously, he has to figure out how to remedy the situation.
I hate to inject my politics into a movie review but in a way, the producers have already done that for us. It's almost like the people in Hollywood or wherever they create movies these days are trying to wake us up and warn us of the possibility of this future dystopian reality.
The new timeline is a dystopian nightmare. It's literally like they're telling us, hey wake up, we'll accomplish great things with this technology but if we're not careful we risk not only enslaving ourselves but completely losing ourselves in the process.
Picard and his crew do make some interesting and unexpected alliances in season II though. Honestly, I found season II thought-provoking with an extremely interesting storyline. I also thought there were some great plot twists towards the end.
As always, Patrick Stewart delivers a warm and heartfelt performance. There were several extremely touching parts that only Patrick Stewart could pull you into emotionally.
My favorite supporting role was probably Raffi who really gets herself together in season II.
Like I said at the start, my review is a little biased. I'm a huge fan of Next Gen. I enjoy watching Patrick Stewart play Picard in the Next Generation series. I think Picard is a great spin-off series. I also enjoyed finding out how Admiral Picard spent his retirement years.
For the most part, I find Picard the series, worthy of the Star Trek franchise. I really enjoyed season II and I hope a season III is already in the works.
