Hello everyone! So this is my first movie review post for Hive and CineTV... So what you don't know about me is that I am a Ghostbusters connoisseur. My parents took me to see both of the original movies in theaters when I was a kid, yes I am old to some here, lol. In my younger childhood days, I was not known by my birth name, I was known as Egon... lol... Running around with my proton pack and my trap all over the place busting ghosts.
My love for the movie franchise has never faded. I have introduced by my kids, which I went to see the movie with my daughter and both cried at the end, which I will not give away, lol. We have even introduced it to my little nieces who love the movies.
Anyway, so a few years ago, someone tried to make a reboot with some of the female cast from Saturday Night Live, and it BOMBED!!! Seriously, one of the worst movies I have ever seen, pretty much period. It was trash to say the least, especially to someone who was baked into the originals so much.
When I heard a couple of years ago, pre-plandemic, that there was a lineage movie in the works and it was being done by Jason Reitman, who is the son of Ivan Reitman, the original director and executive producer of the new movie, I had a good feeling about this one.
Ghostbusters Afterlife is set in rural Oklahoma, It opens up to an intense seen where you cannot see the person's face, but you know who it is...Egon Spengler... He is being chased by an unseeable force to an old house in the middle of nowhere which in the story is where he dies. Now if you didn't know, the original actor, Harold Ramis passed away a few years ago. The movie is a tribute to him for the most part.
He ends up leaving the old 'Dirt Farm' in Oklahoma to his estranged daughter and her 2 teenage kids. They end up getting evicted from their apartment and headed to the old farm house.
Here is where they ended up learning more about their grandfather's legacy. The story goes on and ends up continuing allot from the first movie, with the return of the original Gozer and Zuul figures coming back around! And let's not forget the mini Stay Puffed marshmallow men, lol... About the cutest thing I have seen since Baby Yoda...
The cast was absolutely amazing, and you know the original boys that are left make their appearance along with some of the other original cast. Finn Wolfhard from 'Stranger Things' plays the older brother of the two siblings and Mckenna Grace plays the younger Pheobe who is really the main character of the movie and follows closely in her grandfather's footsteps. She meets a young friend called 'Podcast' who is basically the kid version of Ray Stantz, lol. They really couldn't have done a better job casting.
Now I can't get too much into it without spoiling too much of the movie. But just know that it was done right! My daughter and I were both absolutely blown away, and like I said there were definite tears at the end.
So if you have the opportunity to see it in theaters, you really should. Worth the ticket!
Heck, I may just go see it again tonight, lol.
Be Cool, Be Real, and always Abide!
