Ted Bundy: No man of God (La confesión final)
Ted Bundy: No Man of God (The Final Confession)
My dear #Hivecinéfilos I greet you from my "Presidential" armchair where I enjoy all the wonderful details that the film and TV platforms provide me with. Since I got my Roku I haven't stopped watching series, novels, movies, and any documentary I can find on the different platforms. Comedy, drama, but less horror because I don't share that genre, are part of my repertoire to share with you. This time, as if the platform knew me, it has oriented me towards real dramas. On satellite TV, I love channels like Discovery ID that deal with crimes like killing your wife for the insurance or burying your neighbour because you dislike his dog.
So I think it shows me some emblematic cases that have happened and marked American and world history if we look at it from the point of view of the damage it has done to our memories. The film I want to show you is a film based on a real event in the 80s, which even today continues to generate controversy and even the search for some bodies. It doesn't have the kind of scenes of blood or shooting that I don't like, but I warn you that it works on something more complex and inhospitable as the human mind and its way of seeing things. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Non-scientific assessment The world is full of actions accepted or not by society. We can see people getting engaged and married and it is celebrated and even envied. A person who smokes is not celebrated but neither is he or she ostracised or punished for his or her behaviour. In this way we can recognise each of our behaviours as accepted or rejected by the environment in which we live. However, theft, murder and sexual abuse, specifically against women, are crimes that are abhorred (dare I say it) all over the world, that shock society and demand that the full weight of the law be brought to bear on them.
In the 1980s, we lacked evidence, chemicals, technology that would make it easier to recognise, investigate and solve crimes such as those committed by Ted Bundy. This serial killer is considered one of the most dangerous killers in US history, having confessed to the siege, persecution, rape and murder of at least 30 women in the 1970s, after denying it on several occasions. There was a previous film I saw, on the appreciation of his wife, which I will synopsise later, also as chilling as his confessions. Ted made a mistake in murdering a 12 year old girl. You can get more information by googling it. However, this film caught my attention because the investigator Hagmaier beyond the confessed crimes which were already obvious from the evidence, tried to find out What does he think? How does he think? and above all What or Why are his motives for doing what he did? Hey! This is what gets more than one to think.
This real-life case makes it clear that killers can be among us, and even that anyone can be one of them. To me it is a very strong statement, but it is like in childhood, we see our favourite superhero and want to be like him, or our favourite artist and wear her brand of clothes. Of course there is no point of comparison when it comes to a person's vulnerability, but it is an important aspect to note and keep in mind that the killer lives among us. Perhaps at that time there were no networks or ways to follow someone as exposed, but if it is to note that when a person is prone to this type of behavior of harm to others, it will use their cunning and desires to achieve their goals, it is also similar to, if you want to be a doctor you study to be a doctor, so if within people there is a predisposition to abuse women, they will find the techniques and strategies that allow them to achieve their goals and like any behaviour, when there are no negative consequences that eliminate this behaviour, it increases their intention to continue doing it.
Another important point to be discovered or not and approved or not by society, is the environment; if despite acting in a way that harms the other and no consequences occur, the murderer or person who commits crimes, will think that it is okay and continues to have those behaviours. In the film it is evident and as a real life case, that there were people (many women), who "died" for being with this serial killer. How? Well, I think that as a society we are very damaged, but that is how our human behaviour is, as infinite as so many people on the planet.

The FBI Investigator, managed to devise a system called "Criminal Profilers" where he served as National Director because, understanding the psychology, how it comes to it and in an attempt to prevent these situations, Bill spends long hours with this killer to create a profile of the cases that he subsequently acted on. The final reflection I can draw from this film, where the researcher was also the producer, is that a murderer/rapist has narcissistic traits to execute his victims, the desires of domination, sexual pleasure and even necrophiliac tendencies, accompany this complex world of the attacker; on the other hand, the belief that the actions performed are right, allows them to act in such a way that these irrational beliefs are maintained and increased. Finally, the wilder and more natural desires that he expresses in the final interview, and that make Bill doubt his law-abiding beliefs, is a good point of reflection and discussion about what we are willing to do or not do.
For me, it is an interview worth watching, the final days of one of America's most notorious serial killers, understanding his way of acting, his behaviours and thoughts, even his consideration of the existence of God, are situations that will leave us thinking. I don't give it a 5, because despite being well worked (camera, script, editing, wardrobe, nothing overacted) in technical aspects, I can't praise the work of a man who still continues to cause so much damage, because of the unidentified victims. In honour of his memory, we must not forget such performances. Thank you for reading me and if you have any further thoughts it would be good to read them in the comments. Regards.
