This morning I'm bringing you a little behind the scenes realness of being a working show girl!
An audience gets to see this...
or things like
OOOOoooOOOO AAaaaAAHH right!?
Our job is to make the final product beautiful and seamless so that an audience can enjoy the show! But some of my most favourite parts are the behind the scenes and the bonding that comes from making a performance or an event possible. For example- an outdoor show I organized with Cirque-ability this past weekend meant an early morning and setting up an aerial rig. Heavy lifting, rigging and running around hours and hours before the event. But I think we do it in style.
Have you ever walked down the street with a mat on your head?
It's not glamorous but let me tell you, it's where the real love and magic happens! It's rare to just show up to a gig and have everything done for you but that's part of the experience. We often get ready in public bathrooms, on streetcars or in stairwells and warm up wherever we can. We also have to be improvisers with regards to the spaces we're in or weather and always working with safety as our top priority. Its a wild world but we do it because we love it!
So there's your little sneak peek behind the GLITZ and the GLAM. And be sure-even if you're watching a large scale production there are some pretty silly and gritty work going into every polished performance you see.
Oh, and your feet often look like this...
It's gross and I love it
(my boyfriend...not so much, but too bad- I'm a show girl yo!)
