Around 3000 years ago, Cadiz was founded by the phoenicians. It's considered the oldest city in western Europe. Part of the old city walls are still standing and the old city looks quite Moorish in appearance. Since then the city has expended until the Atlantic coast line.
Cadiz is an island and totally surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. It's connected to the mainland by a long causeway built on a sandbar. It has several lighthouses of which the most important one you can see in the picture above. It's modernized now, but already in use for centuries.
Cadiz is wonderful because it combines old and new. Many locals still live by fishery. But Cadiz also has some fantastic universities, that attract young people from the whole province of Cadiz.
Definitely a place I'd advice you to visit..
