One of the best spots to shoot NYC is in New Jersey. If you like shooting fireworks set a Google alert for “fireworks NYC” as a lot of firework displays go down on the west side of Manhattan. This time I wasn’t there to shoot fireworks but to meet up with a long time buddy. Since he was close to this spot I brought my camera along knowing this would be a good photo opportunity.

What I really dig about this image is how you can see Times Square glowing from the inside and from the outside of the buildings you see shadows.
For those curious: since there was a lot of light the shutter speed was only 5 seconds at f8. It was also taken when I shot with a Nikon D7000 with a 18mm - 200mm lens. If you own a Nikon crop sensor camera I highly recommend the 18-200mm as it gives you tons of range. It comes in handy especially on vacation when you don’t want to carry too much gear. Even better is their 18-300mm as it’ll give you more bang for your buck!
This picture was taken in March of 2012 and it’d be interesting to go back and see how much the skyline has changed.
