There is a 'famous' and troubled squat House in Berlin where residents live autonomously and free from the 1990's.
This is my entry to the city story contest organised by
It is in the Mittens district at Köpernicker Strasse 137. It is nearly the last free space in Berlin, with nearly 50 tenants.
It was occupied in 1990 and since it is the most important radical left-wing residential place.
It was built in 1900 or so and was a typical residential house of the time.
Since than the standards lowered and there were riots around the property that left some cars burnt out. The owners tried to evict the residents but as their slogan says: Köpi stays.
It has a bar and even a cinema, which is open at night and they organise some cultural events as well.
If you are around, you must visit.
