The biggest downrange danger to humanity, looks to be digital superintelligence given the speed at which intelligence seems to be moving through the different species (or biological vehicles/vessels), starting from single-cells through to complex consciousness (perhaps resembling someone like Elon Musk being the pinnacle of human intelligence) as we "bio-boot load" towards digital superintelligence.
That being said, in the near term, it is regression of temperament back to the mean (because our temperamental set-point as a species is very low), thus a more primeval world of "hunter-gatherers" as we de-civilise, that we should also focus on.
This means a more turbulent, violent and "limbic-driven" civilisation full of emotions, as levels of stress and anxiety rise. This is what happened when Rome cycled through to its Dark Age. As we switch from neocortex (thinking) to limbic system (feeling), critical-thinking will become much harder for the masses.
Unfortunately, the future will look bleak compared to today, and today things are already starting to look troublesome. We've discovered inextricable links between environment, cultural values, childrearing patterns, epigenetics, character and intelligence, as we study as scientifically as we can, the biology behind history.
What matters is detecting/tracking these generational changes in physiology of the masses, which is where leaders always draw their political fuel and sustenance from.
