In the continuing discussion of how war is propaganda, and the U.S. with larger military budget than next 10 countries combined, what is the effect of the military-industrial complex? The violence spills over into the gun debate, where over 3 million individuals with military service in society, and our innnate love of the gun, we cannot deny that order is maintained by violence domestically and abroad.
If we keep the cycle of failed military occupations everywhere it will continue to erode the higher elements of free society. Linked to this is the over reliance on the policing system and and the catastrophic and brutal prison system. Neither work and we fail to see the dystopia in our midst, hide it as we may. What society needs now is deep and broad changes to health care, education, family support and the other building blocks of civil society.
If we keep standing around waving flags, cheering bombs, and scapegoating the 'bad guys' and immigrants, slowly we will all be irrevocably inside the same prison of violence and shame we've created for the less fortunate in our midst and in our world.
