It's rare to see a photo of an Australian politician that I'm proud of.
Senator Ludlam has always felt like a genuinely positive force in Australian politics , and one of the few willing to speak up passionately about controversial issues like censorship, drones and surveillance.
Now that the Australian govt has purchased weaponized drones, it's great to see a resurgence in protests against Pine Gap - where they'll likely be remote controlled from.
This video was posted to Senator Ludlam's facebook page on the 21st May titled "Last night we went to visit Pine Gap" . I wasn't able to find a youtube version, and Aussie media won't focus on this - so I ripped and reuploaded this to my own youtube channel.
Text of the original FB post :
Greens National Conference is in Alice Springs this year. We kicked off with a protest outside Pine Gap gates a US war base in Central Australia. 50 or so Greens plus two babies gathered at the gates that were quickly closed on our arrival. Scott Ludlam, Janet Rice and myself spoke.
To build a peaceful world the Pine Gap base must close. We paid tribute to the thousands of people who over the past 40 years have protested at these gates. Hundreds have been arrested in some of the most creative actions we have seen in this country.
