After publishing my post yesterday, some friends messaged me in private and asked, “Who were you referring to?” I laughed it off by replying, “Don’t you see that i omitted the name on purpose? Just out of basic courtesy/respect to him/her, and more importantly, we shall focus on the matter itself rather than the person involved. I only disagreed with his/her action, that’s all. This should be clarified.
The mighty Abit gave a few of us the authority & support to manage the Chinese community on Steemit... ok maybe that sounds a little exaggerated, simply put, Abit trusts us, and allows us to upvote the posts that we like. Which is great, this is not only trust, but also responsibility. I always emphasize that, the greater one’s power, the more mindful he should be while performing his tasks with due diligence.. (With great power comes great responsibility.)
It’s my turn to host the Teahouse today, and i’d like to suggest a new subject for discussion. Actually it’s not new because it has been a trending topic lately, which is, How Shall We Develop Our Chinese Community on Steemit? It seems like a huge topic, but really it’s not, because i believe that as long as everyone contributes a little, no matter how miniscule, Steemit will have a wonderful future.
I suggest that we upvote Steemit posts based on general recommendations, similar to the Xiaolian Standard of Nomination in Han Dynasty (150s BC.) You all can recommend good posts in our Teahouse comment section, which is probably not the most ideal way yet, but at least it’s what i think, the best at the moment. Of course, you’re more than welcome to recommend your own posts, as long as they have substance. So please don’t be shy. We welcome all!
When we discuss how to work towards a better regulatory environment, we might have certain disagreement. It’s alright to have arguments in private, but as soon as an agreement has been reached, we shall all honor it, without publicly opposing each other.
You probably have seen it on TV how, during a parliament meeting, the members fight against each other, even on live broadcast. It’s not funny, don’t laugh. On the contrary, I think it’s what democracy is about, which i agree with. Of course, democracy has its downside too, for example, inefficiency. But it’s alright, we can discuss it here, there are only a handful of us, unlike the UN which has 193 countries. How difficult it is for them to reach an agreement!
Therefore, I come up with a few ideas on how we shall make decisions in the community from now on. Please give me your feedback:
1. Any subject on prohibition, it must be a unanimous decision. As long as there is one person opposes the prohibition, we shall either drop it, or amend it.
2、我们只限制真正想要限制的;
2. We shall only prohibit what truly needs to be prohibited.
3、反之,如果没有限制的,就是允许的,至于有问题,那至少不是法规的问题;
3. On the other hand, as long as it’s unprohibited, it’s allowed. If there’s an issue, it’s not a matter of regulation/rule/law.
In short, absence of prohibition means freedom!
