Lazy Sunday Coffee
ON A LAZY SUNDAY MORNING
It was a dull Sunday morning and I had slept in slightly. The morning sunshine I have become accustomed to was missing, replaced by dense cloud and a little mist. I went to the kitchen to make myself some early morning coffee, so as to awaken properly, and it happened! I had run out of coffee completely! Even the decaf stuff was all gone!
No need to panic! Gone are the days when stores were closed on Sundays in England. Well, in London anyway. I remember back in the day, when I lived in Canterbury, we had to make sure we'd stocked up on Friday because shops really did close on weekends, especially on Sundays. Nowadays, Sunday is just like any other day on the high street, especially in my neighbourhood.
I perused the choice before me. I was in a corner shop by the way. So called because it's just around the corner from one's home, not that it's actually on the literal corner of the terrace. Mind you, some are. Anyway, the choice was impressive for such a small shop. They even had some Nespresso pods, but they were marked up too high. I picked what looked relatively good - a bag of cafetière coffee. What actually attracted me was the name - Lazy Sunday.
Taylors of Harrogate - Lazy Sunday Ground Roast Coffee 3 is roasted and packed in Harrogate, UK. I liked that. A sort of Local business (globally speaking). It's also 100% Arabica coffee, so you can't go wrong with that. The main reason I got it, however, was the serendipitous coincidence of me discovering a coffee called Lazy Sunday on a lazy Sunday.
When I opened it and poured it into my coffee bowl, where I usually store cafetière coffee because it's 100% air and water tight, I noticed that it didn't fill the bowl. All the bags of coffee I've ever bought in this size range have always filled the bowl. It was then I noticed it said 227g on the bag while others would normally say 250g. It made me wonder if they'd reduced the quantity for some reason. 227 seems quite random and arbitrary. Why not just 250? You know, it's a local business and their 0800 number is on the bag. Perhaps I'll give them a call and ask. There might be an interesting reason for it.
The coffee also isn't as smooth as some others I've tried. After pouring boiling water into it and waiting for about 3 minutes, the granules still were floating around. I didn't use a press this time, I couldn't be bothered to fetch it, so I just tolerated the granules. Also my press is too large and always seems like overkill to use it. What I need to do is buy a small press or one of those coffee mugs with inbuilt presses or filters. That's probably the best option.
The coffee itself wasn't too bad. It's not the best I've had honestly but for a lazy Sunday morning, it was just what I needed to finally kickstart the day.
Peace & Love,
Adé
