In Today's Project Diary Video I will share some additional information on the newly imposed coffee shop tax being dubbed as "The Latte Levy". I will also be sharing some helpful information on the dangers of plastic beverage mugs and how they affect your health.
We are led to believe a majority of "Paper Coffee Cups" are recycled but the truth is over 2.5 Billion cups are thrown away each year in the UK. This creates around 30,000 Tonnes of waste that could easily be recycled and reused. Unfortunately, it's uncommon to know that these cups are lined with PE plastic and would usually contaminate regular recycling resources.
The public is encouraged to purchase reusable cups and could be offered a small discount for doing so but are these cups safe?
BPA is a notorious chemical used in some plastic and is used in some water bottles and travel mugs!! Despite many countries trying to phase this chemical out, it's still widely used around the Globe.
There are over 80,000+ chemicals used to make many commerically available plastics and many are being found to cause extreme health problems including that to the endocrine system (shown above) This can cause anything including nurological issues such as behavioral problems, depression, anxiety - all the way to alzihmers. They can also disrupt the thryoid causing obescity, fertility and birth defects and even Brest, Testicular and prostate Cancer.
