Loving the beautiful blue sky! So I thought this picture was perfect for today’s colorchallenge. I posted about this place 2 days ago. It’s near my work and has a lovely view of the sea.
Scheveningen is a part of the city The Hague in The Netherlands. You can eat a lovely 'Haring' (fish) here and enjoy the sea. This time a year it's really cold. It's almost freezing today so you won't find me there any time soon ;)
But it's really relaxing.
In The Netherlands we have to control the sea at all times. Almost 2/3 of the country is vulnerable to flooding because 1/3 of the country is below sea levels. Half of The Netherlands is just one metre above sea level so we have to control the sea or we are doomed. We have natural dunes and constructed dikes, dams, and floodgates to prevent our lovely country from disappearing underwater.
We had a big flood in 1959. It's called "De Watersnoodramp" and a lot of people died. So we tried to learn from that and build the "Delta Works" (Deltawerken in Dutch). Along with the Zuiderzee Works, Delta Works have been declared one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
