Passion Flowers
Did you know that the passion flower is full of medicinal benefits?
These flowers are believed to have been discovered in Peru by Spanish explorers in the 1600s who thought they symbolized Christ's passion and his approval of their exploratory efforts.
The above ground parts of this plant have been used medicinally to treat ailments such as insomnia, anxiety, gastrointestinal issues and even narcotic withdrawl. It is also used to ease symptoms of asthma, seizures, heart palpitations, ADHD, high blood pressure and even fibromyalgia.
It can even to be applied to the skin directly to treat hemorrhoids, inflammation and also burns.
The extract of the passion flower is also used for flavoring in food and drink. Prior to the 1980s, the natural healing properties of this plant were even approved for use as an over-the-counter sleep-aid and sedative in the United States up until 1978 when it was removed from the shelves because it's effectiveness and safety had yet to be scientifically proven.
