This is pokeweed, or so they tell me.
The Dutch name is "karmozijnbes", "bes" meaning "berry" and "karmozijn" meaning "carmine" or "crimson"; a misnomer if ever I saw one, because the older berries are clearly indigo, specially on Saturdays.
No discussion there.
