Everybody of you has seen this ornamental plant which is most commonly known as the snake plant, mother-in-law's tongue, and viper's bowstring hemp, among other names. Because its leaves are like a shake so we call it snake plant.
It is a ornamental plant which can be grown indoor as well as outdoor. It requires very low care, can be grown in low light areas and very less water requirement. Some of its species are used as a bowstrings. It produces plants fibres which is used in making them and due to this it is also called viper's bowstring hemp.
There are many health benefits of it. It purifies the air and absorbs the harmful toxins.
The NASA Clean Air Study found S. trifasciata has air purification qualities, removing 4 of the 5 main toxins.By using the crassulacean acid metabolism process, it is one of the few plants which also remove carbon dioxide at night.
This plant contains saponins which is toxic to pets like cats and dogs and can create some gastrointestinal problems.
