This beautiful and colourful domed ceiling caught my eye on a visit to the largest Mall in the world. The Dubai mall and like many domed ceilings it has an interesting and unusual optical quality.
The elaborate arabesque art pattern plays tricks with your eyes and it is hard to tell if it is concave or convex. As you look at the image it may seem to switch between these two states?
When we zoom into the chandelier we can see that it is very highly decorated with engravings. This chandelier is about 60 feet up in the air and you can only see these details when you zoom in? The designer must have foreseen visitors with zoom lens cameras? :) Now that dear reader, is an example of attention to details.
