We know this Place. This place that very few people know about. This place that is unlike most local trails. We call in Little Hawaii. Named because in summer with the blue of the water and the green of the trees it reminds us of Hawaii. This is the closest we can get to it anyway.
Brenna and I took Jasper, her dog, on this trail for the first time. Just about the whole hike he was jumping on logs and running down game trails. He was glad to be on the trail again.
You drive over a gravel road and an old bridge to reach the trailhead which is a old Forest Service road that is now blocked off.
This trail goes up the mountain for about a mile and a half then you take a detour off the path that continues up the mountain and go down into the valley instead.
There are two places that are pretty steep and get muddy when it rains, so fellow hiker have placed ropes that you can use to help you descend and climb over the large old growth tree roots on your way to the river.
Once you reach the spot there are plenty of places to explore. This makes for a great swimming hole in the summer when the water level is low. You can jump right off the rocks into the deep crevasse.
This is our getaway when we need it and don't want to drive too far. Just a few minute drive from my house and same with hers.
