It is irony.
My son took skating lessons at an indoor rink near our house so I thought it would be fine if we visited this rink with our relatives in Cheonan, South Korea. It was only one dollar to enter and rent skates so it seemed like there was nothing to lose. In Korea almost all ice rinks require gloves and this one also required a helmet which was free of charge to borrow. At the time my son blabbered off something like why do Koreans always have to be so safety conscious. The water slide place made him wear a swim cap and now this place was making him wear a helmet.
My son grew more than 10 centimeters this year so at times he has been awkward.
I was impressed that he could skate even though he was slow and cautious he was still getting around. As it got close to lunch time more people got on the ice and there was nothing smooth about it anymore. There was so much shaved ice on the rink that I made a snowball with it. That’s when they called for everyone to get off the ice and let the Zamboni come in.
If you don’t know what a Zomboni is then you had better watch the video below.
A Zomboni is the substance of dreams for 9 year old hockey fans. Every break time in the hockey games I would watch the Zomboni come out and was fascinated by how it smoothes the ice. It’s really a truck that specializes in resurfacing the ice. The old ice shavings are cleaned up and gathered in a bucket. Then a layer of water is spread out to make new smooth ice. Now the ice in the rink was ready and the people piled in even more than before.
Like I said my son did learn to skate but he never did learn to stop.
As this resurfaced ice was smoother than ever he started going faster than ever. At first he just wanted to keep up with his Gangnam cousin, but he started whipping around the corners out of control. I told him he didn’t have to go so fast and just then he hit the dividing wall at the end of the rink. He is so tall that he fell over the wall into the curling rink. He was suddenly in a game of curling. The wall jabbed his waist when he went over and he was burning with pain. He also got scratched up a lot on the curling rink ice when he toppled over.
The worst part of it all was the referee at the curling rink blew his whistle and shouted, “No skates on the curling rink!”
My son couldn’t go back over the wall. He had to apologetically shuffle his skates across the curling rink whether the referee liked it or not. I met him at the other end of the curling rink and of course asked him,
“Are you OK? You’re bleeding.”
He answered,
The taste of blood is irony.
With hockey skates on the rink
Blood tastes irony
Happy Valentines Day,
With much respect I would like to invite to make a post for
if it does so please you. As long as I’m at it I will also invite
to make a post for
. Check out the rules. It is quite simple.
PS
Don't worry about the zombino spelling. It's not linked to anything deadly. I prefer zombino to zambino obviously. If you see the video you will notice the zombies in passing.
