Owning this book would be a life changer for most. This is straight from CGC’s website.
Batman first hit the pages back in May of 1939 in Detective Comics #27. This book is widely considered to be the second most expensive comic book on the planet...just behind Action Comics #1 which featured Superman’s debut. This book which originally started as an anthology series mainly following “Detective” type stories, eventually became the caped crusader’s flagship title which is currently still running today.
The Mac Daddy of comics.
That’s actually the point of this post. Ya see...Detective Comics is nearing a huge milestone that only 1 other comic book (Action Comics) has achieved thus far...hitting that huge #1000!!! Issue #997 was just released this week so we are just about 2 months away from this major comic event.
When Action hit #1000 last year, DC celebrated by having a ton of iconic artists that have covered Supes in the past, design some snazzy covers. This created a gazillion variants for collectors to go rabid for. It was a tremendous success and DC is going back to the well for Tec #1000.
Some of artists that are participating in this go around include Jim Lee, Steve Rude, Bruce Timm, Bernie Wrightson, Frank Miller, Jim Steranko, and so many more. I’ll pop up a piece showcasing them all soon, but I’m here to talk to you today about one specific one that I fell in love with.
I’m talking about Artgerm’s upcoming contribution. I’ve covered Artgerm many times since popping up here on Steemit...hell, he even did an exclusive cover for my shop a couple of years back!!! I’m just a trenendous fan of the dude and his work.
The cover he did for our Conquest Comics Exclusive Batman & TMNT #1
Also as much as I hate promoting other shops exclusives, it’s hard not to on this one...so here we go!!! Artgerm is doing 3 variants for Detective Comics #1000. A Regular, a Virgin, and a Vintage. The Vintage is where I fell in love. I am a sucker for how Comics from this timeframe look. I love the colors and the overall feel fit the times. So naturally, I’ll be snagging a set for myself when these go on sale this Saturday. No word yet on cost or bundles.
They can be had through his very own site. His link is below Incase anyone is interested. I’m not too sure that these will be anything “super valuable” down the road. So as an investment...I’m not too sold on it. But for a private collector who’s looking to add something beautiful and cool to his collection, I’m all in.
C’mon...how freaking cool is this?!?
What’s your thoughts folks?!?
